Greener Mountains is the coming of age story of JP Barton, an adopted boy raised on a throwback Vermont family resort by the eccentric matriarch. A convergence of events propels him on a bumpy ride of self-discovery in which he realizes what is really important to him is right there in his own backyard.
JP was brought up by 'M', the mercurial aging owner of Barton's Family Resort. Despite already being in her 60's when she finds JP, she opts to bring him up herself and the two develop a unique bond from the start. By the time JP reaches his late teens, he is nearly running the place for her and is a hit with the resort's guests. Barton's is its own little world tucked away in the Green Mountains of Vermont next to a magical lake. The working class families that vacation there return year after year, partly due to the beauty of the place and partly due to the distinctive feel that M and JP bring to the place.

When a young, free spirited New York artist, Alice Flynn, arrives late one summer, JP's life is turned upside down. Completely smitten, he immediately begins spinning a story about himself to impress her. JP never felt comfortable with himself and figures there's no way this beautiful, quirky, cosmopolitan girl would ever fall for a simple small town guy who's spent his entire life on a tiny parcel of land in the middle of nowhere. JP begins to concoct a whole other life for himself as an NYU student who just happens to summer up here in rural Vermont. The more the lies pile up, the harder it is for him to eventually come clean with Alice. JP would do anything for her, but in his efforts to do just that, his lies drive her away.
